Our High Schoolers have been busy! Our Mark Schmitt College Bound & Workforce Readiness Program recently visited Corelogic where they had a presentation, worked on mock interviews, enjoyed the facility, and had an employee Q&A. Then on On Friday, March 10, we took 9 of our high school members to Sonance in San Clemente for a tour. The kids got to hear some speaker demos, learn about the company and even experience the theater room. Sonance is a huge Club supporter and we loved being able to show some of our kids the cool work they do.

BGCSCA hosted our Annual Awards Show with over 200 in attendance. Outstanding members received awards for their efforts in all of our Key Programs such as ART, Reading, Homework Help, Tennis, and we also recognized outstanding Summer Camp members, highlighted top Drama Matters kids, and an Outstanding Member of the Year.
We honored several outstanding Volunteers, Ellie Hammargren, Matt Thompson, Josh Papas, and Dana Lush. Ellie volunteers 1-2 times per week to help teach our members how to play tennis. She is a tennis professional, high school coach and avid Boys & Girls Club volunteer. Matt Thompson joined us in October and is a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton. Matt volunteers 2 days per week at the Club and helps us as an official in our sports leagues & with after school programming. Josh is a Mark Schmitt College Bound & Workforce Readiness Volunteer. He has been a volunteer at the Club for about 2 years. Josh is a science and math volunteer and is helping grow the program by helping us set up business tours. The high school members always tell us that Josh gives the best advice. Dana has recently joined us this school year and has been instrumental to us growing our Workforce Readiness side of our program. Dana helps line up guest speakers and makes sure our members have a nice treat on the days those speakers come in. We also honored Noah & Gavin as Youth Volunteers of the Year, always available to volunteer at our Halloween and Holiday carnivals and helps around the club whenever needed. Yen Pham was named our 2023 Youth of the Year and will compete with other Boys & Girls Clubs from around Orange County for additional awards. Christian Gutierrez named Jr. Youth of the Year 2023.
